anghraine: vader extending his lightsaber; text: and now for the airing of grievances! (shakespeare & fanfic)

I hardly wrote at all, but it was still a fabulous day. I'm on vacation! I bet everyone at Wii Tennis! And unlocked the Lightning Cup! And played with my two thinly-veiled Lucy!toons. Also, I got the final draft of my chapter back from my writing professor, and it was ... a little overwhelming, but amazing.

She wants me to stay in touch, thinks it highly likely that I'll get published at some point (yay!), and thanked me for my, ah, diligent critiques in the workshops. But the best part was when she said that if I plan to continue my story (I've been writing and rewriting it for seventeen years, lol) and felt that I might like outside input, to let her know. ;AJ;DKFDK;AJ;KADFJKDFJ;KLAF;KLJDAL;KAFDKL;FDJ;KL

Honestly, there are not enough keysmashes in the world to express my feelings at the moment.

Oh, and I got a...ah, gentle prodding about SC, but the person was so polite about it that for once I didn't feel any inclination to take all my notes and burn them. Thank you, peculiarly considerate stranger!

To cap it all off, I actually managed to work the line, "this station is now the SUPREME POWER IN THE UNIVERSE!!!!!" into a discussion. It was even relevant, since ladyhadhafang and I were discussing the ridiculously OTT evilness of the ANH-era Imperials. I also managed to further scar her and her entire f-list by ... uh, quoting Christie Golden? Look, I have no soul.
Icon meme

1. Reply to this post with "UNICORNS", and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee

Okay, ladyhadhafang chose the following icons:

I just deleted some blah icons to add this one, actually. I figured I needed one to encapsulate all my issues with the PT, since I talk about them so much, and stumbled across this at duncatra's site. This ... pretty much sums it up. It's like C-SPAN with lasers and incompetent robots! Okay, and much better clothes. *endured TPM by ogling Amidala's gowns*

I wanted a nice sparkly Luke icon and at the time I didn't have any others, and this one was nice and sparkly. Honestly, Mark Hamill has such a mobile face that Luke-on-screen only looks like Luke-in-my-head about a quarter of the time, and none of the icons seemed to be from that part until I found this one (and it's post-accident too!). Also, I like the vibrant colours; a lot of OT icons seem kind of washed-out (and washing out MH's eyes is a sin against nature why yes I am panaesthetic). Pretttttttty.

So Luke-Anakin is my favourite relationship in ... all of SW, pretty much (and quite a lot of other things too). But I didn't have any icons for it, woe, except a random lightsaber-duel thing. Then I ran across this, with the bittersweet pyre and Luke's *sadface* and honestly the words could apply equally well to either of them because, of course, the whole reason what's left of Anakin is burning to a crisp (oh god) is because protecting Luke ended up being more important to him than anything else.

(>>>tangentially, I always vaguely imagined that Han could kind of vaguely wrap his brain around Luke's devotion to his father because his father was a total deadbeat who didn't give a shit about him or anything, really, and baby Han would have overlooked far worse things than Daddy Solo ever did if he'd shown the slightest interest in him. Which he never did, so teenage Han just hated him instead. And grown-up Han doesn't find it that hard to see how Luke could love his father, who did far worse things than Daddy Solo, but also thought Luke was the most important person in the galaxy.)

On the other hand, Luke is unequivocally trying to protect Anakin as well, not just from the Emperor but from ... you know, the Dark Side. And from death too, in a sad, not-quite-getting-it way that was probably achingly familiar to Anakin himself. ;_;

Oh, one of mine! This is basically my response to the movie version of Faramir. Yes, my response is simply quoting the original. What else do you need?

Well, and I used the only art I've ever seen that really matched up to my image of him -- kasiopea's. I love how stern and Númenórean he looks (with honest to goodness grey eyes!!), but I think you can see the compassion there too. But not a face that would ever make you think "pushover." Also, Faramir is supposed to look like Boromir and Denethor (and therefore Aragorn), and this is one of the only ones that I can imagine remotely resembling the three of them.

heeeeeeeeeh. fialleril made this one. It's a line from one of her fics, written I think in honour of the confirmation of Sherlock's asexuality (but maybe not, I don't remember), and I went lol muchly. And now I have an asexual icon! Yay!

Also, this is a fairly accurate summary of my feelings about most porn. Less horror, more *yaaaaaawn.*

Day 21: What is your favourite asexual quote?

Uh...

There are a lot of awesome ones, really. Here's one I ran into as a baby asexual and always liked, though:

"It's like I've eaten spam a few times from a few popular brands and in a few serving suggestions, and found I'm not really keen on spam, 'cos it's salty and slimy and looks like something you might find in the alien queen's litter box. But I've found myself in a world that's completely obsessed with spam. People spend their entire lives in pursuit of spam. Every single advert on TV sells their product by placing it alongside spam. Movies have to work in at least one spam scene to reach the broadest audience. People break up and get divorced because they don't exchange enough spam. Soldiers are given time out to go have some spam. Low-risk prisoners are given spam visiting rights. People die for spam. Entire economies have been based around spam. Selling spam is the world's oldest profession. The lack of spam has been linked to mental disorders. The only thing getting teenagers through difficult puberty is the thought of one day getting to have spam of their very own. It's just tinned meat, guys."

Day 21: Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?

I ... honestly don't know. I don't usually; generally I'm so pleased to have omg actually finished something that definishifying it is the last thing on my mind. Sometimes I write one-shot sequels to other one-shots, I think, but generally just turn them into a multi-chapter fic or leave them as independent fics set in the same universe or include side-stories separately. Hm, let me check my AO3 list.

I guess The Bicycle was kind of a sequel to Perfect, in a one-shot succeeding another one-shot way. Oh, Claims to Reputation was originally more or less a sequel to Season of Courtship and Matter of Chance, but then I only wrote Courtship to get from P&P to Chance -- Chance is less a sequel to Courtship than Courtship is a prequel to Chance, and I've ended up basically discarding the latter until I have time to smack it into shape. But that's pretty much it.

I don't object to sequels, per se, but I'm usually done with a story when I'm done with it. If not, I'm more likely to write prequels or side-stories of some kind than proper sequels, and my biggest temptation is probably to write AUs of them (true confession! I constantly fought the temptation to make First Impressions a crossover with Young Wizards or The Fire-Rose.) Whenever people ask for sequels, I'm either "actually this is a prequel to something else" or "ah... idk, but if it happens it'll be a looooooong time from now." On the other hand, the two things I'm writing right now both require sequels and will definitely have them.
