This post only makes sense in context, so:

Firstly, DaftLimmy on Twitter said:

People should be born Cancelled. And you've got to spend your whole life trying to Walk It Back.

Roo Honeychild, still on Twitter, responded:

it's called Catholicism

Hozier (yes, that Hozier) left a like on that response.

angelsaxis on Tumblr posted the screenshot of all three, and captioned it:

My friend ameliarating, who is Jewish, said:

#sounds like all of christianity? but I don't know enough to know #christian friends #is this just catholicism?

I responded:

Not all Christian sects subscribe to the doctrine, though more than just Catholics do. It is really strongly associated w/ Catholicism, however.

[ETA 3/6/2024: my family background is primarily Mormon and conservative Catholic, and although I am agnostic, I was raised Mormon with bits of Catholic influence from visits with my bio father and his family. There are ... more commonalities between them, from my perspective, than either would like to admit, but this is a point on which they profoundly differ. One of the most basic tenets of Mormon/LDS doctrine is that human beings are only answerable for their own transgressions, and specifically not for Adam's. There are thirteen basic articles of LDS faith and this is the subject of the second one.

...I still remember that despite my long-standing agnosticism and refusal to have anything to do with the church, because there's a little song to go with each article that you learn as a child, which I now have stuck in my head. But seriously, my only concept of original sin while growing up was "that's a thing the Catholics believe, and some other people, but they're wrong, children are pure." This is why there is no infant baptism in Mormonism, btw; the rationale is that there is no need, because infants are automatically free from sin, and very young children lack meaningful moral agency. I didn't get into any of this at the time because I didn't want to open the discussion up to No True Scotsman: Christianity Edition.]
