I spent the last week up in Bellingham (my almost-home-town!), finishing up a few final essays and enjoying myself with my friends. I got my grades, which are mostly better than I expected (A-, A-, B-), got into advanced creative writing, and generally everything's going well. Oh, and Mark Oshiro is doing Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which I've heard fine things about but never seen -- and I don't really know much about it -- so I caught up to episode four so I could comment.

I tweeted my reactions, so here they are:

10 hours ago: @MarkDoesStuff is watching Buffy, so I am too. And I know nothing except bits from crossover fics where Buffy kills Edward and stuff.

9 hours ago: first thoughts: lol nineties, love Giles and not extending ~the reveal~, Xander is kind of an asshat, Booth? and yaaaaay vampires!

8 hours ago: season 1, ep. 2: ahahahaha what'shisname actually said "what's wrong with your faaace?" #buffy #redlettermedia

Yes, it took me two hours to get through episode 4. As much as everyone seems to have found the episode dull, I suspect Mark's speculation that it's even MORE boring for - uh...not-straight people? yeah, us - is pretty accurate. Even David Boreanaz's weird facial contortions were just kind of silly in an older-man-creepily-stalking-a-teenage-girl kind of way.

Anyway. At this point, I cautiously like it, love Buffy, Giles, and Cordelia, and as you might have guessed rather dislike Xander.

So anyway. If I haven't responded to you and it seems odd, all that is why! I'll try and catch up this weekend.

Also! The gap between close-readings (-watchings?) has been even more enormous than usual because my DVD of A New Hope doesn't work any more and the youtube version got taken down. But I'd like to do one while I'm on vacation (and waiting for Christmas to be over so I can buy myself things again). I thought of doing the prequels or something, but I'm pretty sure they've also been taken down, and these kind of plodding reviews aren't fun when it's something I largely hate, and fun is why I do them. So I've had an idea for something SW-y that I actually like, but not (wholly) uncritically, and can actually have fun with, and might have some hope of finishing. Let's see!
