anghraine: a bg3 female half-elf cleric with messy wavy hair and a serious expression (larissa (semi-profile))

Digging up the links to so many DW tags got me wondering what tags I've actually used more than any others over here. It will probably look different after I'm done cross-posting, and maybe I'll check again then. But as of right now, the evening of 29 April 2024, this is every tag I've used over 100 times since my first post on 19 July 2009—

A. Tags used over 500 times:

1. #site: tumblr

This is far and away my most commonly used tag (used 1739 times), mainly because I've been cross-posting old Tumblr posts to Dreamwidth for years now, but also because I use it for every post referring to basically anything going on at Tumblr as well as the cross-posts.

2. #fandom: star wars

This feels like the "real" #1 tag, used 668 times and beating out all other fandoms (and indeed, everything). I suspect this is partly because I got into SW after making my DW account, but at a time when journal fandom was still quite active, so one of my most intense periods of SW fannishness was based here (or synced with lj, so the content is here as well). And then when you add in SW cross-posts and "overflow" material from Tumblr once Disney SW got kicking, especially after Rogue One, it's enough for the SW tag to jump ahead of every other tag but the Tumblr one.

3. #genre: meta

I periodically whine about feeling like I'm perceived more as a meta writer than a fic writer, even though I care more about fic and derive far more joy from it ... but I've tagged 667 posts with the meta tag and far less with any fic-related tag. In fairness, I originally conceived as "meta" as basically any post talking about a canon or fandom that wasn't fic, no matter how abrupt, so things I wouldn't really describe as "meta" these days fell under the tag until pretty recently. Even so, I've posted a lot more serious meta than fic!

4. #fandom: austen

The only surprise here is that this one wasn't even higher. I've tagged 640 posts with it over the years, and if you've followed me on Tumblr for awhile, you know there's only more coming. I'm pretty sure it'll beat out SW in the end for sheer quantity.

5. #fandom: middle-earth

While the previous three tags are clustered pretty closely together, there's a jump from the 640 Austen posts to a mere 505 Tolkien posts. This is partly because a bunch of my Tolkien stuff never made it onto Dreamwidth (that is, it happened on sites that are now dead or on lj before Dreamwidth was ever founded, or much later, was posted over at Tumblr and much of it hasn't made its way back over here). It's still one of my biggest fandoms, obviously; SW, Austen, and Tolkien will probably always be the Big Three for me.

B. Tags used over 300 times (but less than 499):

1. #rl

I've often used DW as a venting space wrt RL frustrations—Tumblr too, to some extent, but there's plenty that's only here. 80 of the 435 posts in this tag are under f-lock, which is pretty high for me.

2. #wank

This has 391 posts. I tend to be pretty generous about what I tag as wanky (I've often used it for basically anything I thought could conceivably be controversial, which might have boosted its count a bit), but I'm an irritable and nitpicky person, so this is also fairly predictable.

3. #uni and academia

This is a frequent fellow traveller to the #rl tag at 358 posts, though it also encompasses anything to do with academia (I combined my old #uni tag about my experiences from Running Start through the PhD with the general #academia tag awhile back, mostly because my specific academic experiences and my posts about academia had a massive amount of overlap).

4. #ch: fitzwilliam darcy

Surprising absolutely no one, I'm guessing, my most-tagged character is also my favorite character, Fitzwilliam Darcy. He has appeared in 338 different posts thus far (and that's not counting the older lj posts I didn't move over or the backlog of Tumblr Darcyblogging that isn't here yet!). A hard one to beat on this blog, for sure.

5. genre: fic talk

I've got more posts identified as talking about fic than actual fic posts! Apparently I talk about fic more often, or at least have done it more often thus far, than almost any other category of post. Plenty of fic is at AO3 and not here, but I still have more fic talk posts here than fic posted at AO3 (a mere 222 fics posted there vs the 318 fic talk posts). Again, I guess I'll grudgingly admit that it makes a certain sense that I'd be more associated with talking about the thing than actually doing it.

6. #ch: luke skywalker

Luke is the only character other than Darcy to make the 300+ cut at 313 posts. He probably is my second favorite character and certainly my favorite SW character, and the one whose character arc I find most powerful and convincing. So he deserves his place here! And he's also tightly bound up with my other peak SW faves that make this list; the intensity of my feelings about them partly turns on Luke and generated a lot of the SW material that's here.

C. Tags used over 200 times (but less than 299)

1. #complaining

This used to be #whining, but its 292 posts include enough stuff that characterizing them all as "whining" started to feel like hitting myself in the face. A good number of these (56) are also f-locked, sometimes because I don't want them found by people I know IRL, but usually because even I know a lot of these posts are complaining for the sake of complaining or kind of trivial or whatnot.

2. #fandom: fandom

The "fandom but not a particular fandom" tag being so high (282 posts) actually surprised me! Not sure why, since I talk about fandom trends a lot, but it's definitely higher than I expected.

3. #ch: anakin skywalker

Probably not a surprise either, since he's one of my peak faves and I refuse to use separate tags for Anakin and Vader, so any post dealing with him in any capacity is under this tag. That's currently 257 posts. I regret nothing! (Unlike him.)

4. #rants

As I said in the blogkeeping post, this tag I reserve for longer screeds and not just anything irritable and controversial. It's not like I'm reluctant to post longer screeds, though, and it seems kind of apropos that there are almost the exact same number of ranting posts (254) as there are Anakin posts.

5. #genre: fic

Finally, here it is, with 246 posts tagged as fanfic! That's more than I have posted at AO3, now that I think about it, though there are certainly some pieces here that aren't at AO3 (though I wouldn't think twenty more, since I generally only use this tag for proper fic posts and not for scraps or excerpts of fic or general discussion of fanfiction). Things might be divided up a bit differently here, though.

6. #ch: elizabeth bennet

I find Elizabeth deeply interesting (both as a person and in terms of how the novel functions as a whole), even though I do prefer some other female characters to her. Between my interest in her personally and my hardcore Darcy/Elizabeth shipping, it's not that shocking that she is my most tagged female character on Dreamwidth, with 242 posts involving her, and my fourth most-tagged character overall. I was a little surprised, though!

7. #fandom: avatar

I did not expect this one to show up so much, either! I often used this tag alone rather than tagging Avatar posts as ATLA- or LOK-specific posts, so the more specific tags might be a bit under-represented here (the vast bulk of these 226 posts are LOK posts). I knew I had quite a bit of LOK stuff, but not that it was this many!

8. #gender: genderbending

This is the only specific fic genre to make the list at all, lol. I use this tag for basically anything that references one of my genderbent fics or genderbending in general, so it might be a bit high at 218 posts. Still, I don't think anyone who follows me could honestly be surprised to find it here.

D. Tags used over 100 times (but less than 199)

1. #ch: leia organa

I was sure she'd make the list, so it's nice to see her clock in at 194 posts. And I don't strongly ship her with anyone, romantically speaking, which tends to boost a character onto these lists, so she's here mostly as a pure measure of my affection for her.

2. #genre: meme

This includes a lot of older posts that were memes in the sense of challenges to respond to rather than screenshots of memes-as-jokes, though some of the latter are in the tag as well. There are 185 posts in this one.

3. #ch: faramir

I can't think anyone's shocked that he's my most-tagged Tolkien character at 179 posts (and he's certainly got plenty more coming in the Tumblr crossposting queue). That said, it was kind of surprising that so many people on Tumblr associated me with my Faramir posting rather than Darcy or Luke in that poll I did awhile back—not to diminish my very great love for Faramir and how much it's been a major propelling force in my fandom activity, but I was sure I'd talked more about other faves.

4. #gaming

I used to have "I'm not really a gamer..." disclaimers when I couldn't resist the urge to bring up one of my beloved games, which is kind of hilarious in consideration of the 148 posts under this tag. I'm totally a gamer, just not a good one :P

5. #nice things people say to me

This skews pretty heavily to nice things said to me in posts from Tumblr, or references to cool stuff I've found elsewhere. Sometimes these are compliments on my work, sometimes they're simple kindnesses, but I like to maintain the tag to remind myself of the "other side" of the Internet. It's easy to focus on drama and annoyances (and I do that, too), but there's a lot of kindness, as well. Currently, 143 posts reference it!

6. #genre: responses

This is simply a categorization for my own posts that are me responding directly to someone else, most of them responses originally posted on Tumblr. It's not that I don't respond to my comments here...mostly...when I remember...anyway, a lot of my DW responses are in the comment threads and not the 139 tagged posts.

7. #genre: pics

I drifted to Tumblr pretty specifically for the image hosting convenience, since it was already where I was finding most of the pretty SW pictures I was into at the time. DW improving its image hosting is part of what's made it feasible to return (still very imperfect, but much more doable), so I'm not all that surprised at the 132 posts in the tag.

8. #genre: headcanon

I do love some fun headcanon posts and apparently have 129 of them (...fun for me, anyway :D). This is something that is far more fraught and difficult and annoying to try and do in an academic context, while it's become so extremely widespread and acknowledged in fandom that some fandoms have very little common ground for discussion outside of their personal circles (iykyk). So I'm ambivalent enough that I'm not surprised it isn't higher, but also not surprised that it's here in the first place. It does allow for a degree of freedom and creativity in engaging with stories that academia often denies or represses (especially given how territorial and mutually hostile the various subfields in English studies can be in academia).

9. #ch: noatak

I am genuinely surprised that the only Avatar character to make the cut is Noatak aka Amon. He's been tagged in 119 of my DW posts. I do love him a lot, but not quite as much as Tarrlok or Korra (and probably on a par with Kuvira). On the other hand, in some ways there's more to analyze with him in terms of the broader ethos of the show etc, so I guess it makes sense!

10. #ship: darcy/elizabeth

For as much attention as I've given ships in recent years, and for as many ships as I've been into in various ways, my instincts lean pretty hard to gen and I have to work against that inclination to write overtly shippy stuff at all. So I'm not that surprised that my ultimate OTP, Darcy/Elizabeth, is the only ship to claw onto this list, and barely. I've tagged 117 posts as Darcy/Elizabeth (a number that is certainly going to go up). I have other ships I adore, but none of them can threaten Darcy/Elizabeth's crown.

11. #original fiction

I had more of these than I thought over here, in part because of a pretty significant number of f-locked ones (36 out of the overall 114). None of these include the fiction itself, but are just angsting, thinking through ideas, reflecting on past ideas, etc.

12. #fandom: baldur's gate 3

BG3 is the only specific game to break through, squeaking in at 106 posts, even though I've only played a fraction of the overall game for dissertation reasons. But damn, it's a good one, and while a lot of my posts on Tumblr about it are already here, some of my BG3 fandom content is only here since I was already shifting over by the time it came out. I'm still surprised it beat out both Guild Wars games even with a lot of my GW content still on Tumblr, though! I'll definitely be curious to see if the future cross-posts will let GW surpass it in my personal fiefdom, lol.

13. #us american stuff

Basically all posts directly pertaining to US life or ... anything, really, go under this tag, and it's currently scraping in at 103 posts.

USA! USA!

I guess.
