I reblogged a post from prokopetz about fandoms as fandoms of the ideas of the media that spawn them, more than the media themselves, and added:
#thiiiiiis #i think in a way that this is why fandoms are at their best when they're dealing with a source that's a mixed bag #they still lose sight of what's /there/ in ways that can be turbo-problematic ... but also can be imaginative and thoughtful #when they aren't actually offensive #but the whole 'well actually *blatantly wrong thing*' is a whoooole different deal with things like austen or atla #where the fandoms tend to be VERY much more about the idea of the thing but the contrast with the actual thing is ... painful
