I reblogged a fairly lengthy gifset of parallels between Korra and Kuvira, subtitled with a quote about them from Michael Dante DiMartino:

“When we were coming up with book 4’s antagonist, we wanted her to be female (since all the others were male) and for Korra to have to face someone with some similar personality traits. It’s like Korra has to deal with overcoming a version of her past self.”
