I’m thinking about the moment when Pippin first sees Faramir in person and is struck by his raw charisma, thinking that it’s less “high” than Aragorn’s can be at odd moments, but also more immediate.
It’s such an odd moment—charming! but kind of odd. And I was thinking about a Faramir-at-Rivendell AU, and how Pippin would first react to Faramir there. It’d be without the context of Faramir’s extraordinary heroism vs the Ringwraiths, and also without the context of Aragorn’s moments of high but (by comparison) incalculably remote Presence, which iirc Pippin wouldn’t have really seen yet.
And, in canon, however their relationship develops after, it results in Pippin naming his son for Faramir. This is a big deal!!! But I’m wondering how it would register and develop in a scenario where he initially doesn’t even know who Faramir is and doesn’t have an easy metric for comparison.
#i'm also wondering about... like... how he comes across to everyone #aragorn of course—his initial reaction to faramir comes from the mystical healing and presumably what he knows from imrahil #and that's not there! he arrives at rivendell and then suddenly denethor's equally númenórean son shows up out of nowhere??? #that's not going to register for him in at all the same way it does for pippin #hell i'm even thinking about. like. elrond? #faramir is pretty much a living refutation of ~the blood of númenor is spent~ so...? #and honestly it seems like they're exactly the sort of people who would get on really well #then there's the reverse: what does faramir think of all these people?? #he's following prophetic dreams across incredibly difficult terrain and then lands at the last homely house #and suddenly he's surrounded by eldar and stumbling over periannath and there's the heir of isildur and ... ??? #oh and hahaha i was wondering about whether legolas's response to imrahil should apply #i have to think about this beyond rivendell but once i started thinking about that it just became incredibly entertaining to me #especially since faramir's entire ... mental space is ... i think very strange? #so it's not cool but basically normal guy gets plopped into the fellowship #his own perspective is going to be pretty weird in itself
