My favorite thing that I posted in its entirety this year: probably the gift of men, my Eldarion/Faramir’s daughter fic that I managed to squeeze into my challenge format of seven parts of seven sentences each. It had been rolling around in my head and in scraps for a long time, even though it’s quite short, and I finally managed to get it out in a way I was happy with!

My favorite thing that I updated this year is, inevitably, the chapters of The Jedi and the Sith Lord (the current fic from my Lucy Skywalker [f!Luke] ’verse) that I added. For some reason, TROS ignited my brain and after some four years of no updates I added a ton of chapters within a few weeks.

Which fic this year was the most fun to write? Hmm, it’s got to be Lucy! I just really enjoyed it—the evolving relationship between Lucy and Vader, the droids, the ~drama, the RO cameos, everything. It’s a nice change, too, because while I’m really fond of the Lucyverse, some of it has been a misery to write and this was just a great time.

Last song you listened to: I thiiink it was the instrumental version of “Descendant of the Sun” by Two Steps From Hell. Most of my playlists are some mix of TSFH/Audiomachine/Epic Score and that track is particularly suitable to my current project. :)

Last film you watched: The Rise of Skywalker, I think. Sure was a movie!

Last TV show you watched: in its entirety, The Mandalorian, which I loved. The last TV thing I watched was “The Venom of the Red Lotus” from Legend of Korra, which I also love (Korra and the airbenders taking down the most aggravating of her villains! and there’s actual focus on its impact and consequences!)

Favorite original character: My favorite of my original characters in fanfic is probably … well, I have a bunch of technically-not-OCs whose personalities I completely made up, but for pure OCs, it might be Azruphel of Númenor, a King’s Men partisan whose loyalties are gradually chipped away until she becomes a stealth agent of the Faithful. I’m also fond of F-2VA/Tuvié and LX-3/Ellex from my f!Luke fics, who are two of Vader’s overhauled personal droids that get assigned to supervise Lucy. For original fiction, it has to be a bossy, self-absorbed, and short-tempered (and also just short :P) fire mage who nevertheless has a wide streak of kindness and good intentions.

Spicy, savory, or sweet: Spicy! I do like a lot of sweet things, though.

Sparkling water, tea, or coffee: I hate both sparkling water and coffee, and drink a lot of tea (…if it has enough milk and sugar in it).

Pets: I have a grumpy and high-strung grey cat.

The Jedi and the Sith Lord, Part 1

I finished recording the opening eight chapters (out of 21) of The Jedi and the Sith Lord, the sequel to my f!Luke AU fics The Adventures of Lucy Skywalker and The Imperial Menace. This part is all uploaded here, and matches the first eight chapters of the AO3 version here.

However, TJATSL is different from the other two; it’s always been the core of the AU in my mind and is the place where it really splits off into its own story. Consequently, if you’re familiar with the two major spoilers from the other fics (posted under the cut), it’s pretty easy to jump right into TJATSL without reading the others.

Some other stuff to know:

It does not run parallel to any of the movies, instead splitting off from the main canon storyline at the end of ESB and covering the next few months.
Where Adventures was about 29k and Imperial about 23k, TJATSL is 70k and covers half of its general storyline.
As with Adventures and Imperial, it assumes that the male domination of the OT exists in-world, with a major effect on the story.
Also like them, it generally ignores the SWEU and non-film/script material, apart from a few names.
Where Han’s and Leia’s chapters were the core of The Imperial Menace, TJATSL focuses tightly on Lucy and Anakin/Vader.
The page can take a few seconds longer than most to load.

I had trouble figuring out how to read the characters' voices in the opening chapter of The Jedi and the Sith Lord (finally, we're at my baby!). But the droids are too fun to just read in my standard voice with no variation, esp given that I tried for some of the canon inflection with Threepio in Adventures and Imperial, so I finally came up with concepts that made it manageable.

Of the three droids in Ch 1, it's probably Tuvié (surprisingly!) who came out sounding the least like my conception of her, which used to be a sort of high-pitched, bubbly Threepio ... but my voice doesn't work that way, so I decided to just lean into style and go for "over-eager hospitality student" vibes instead.

I finally felt moved to work on SW fic again!

“What do you want? Is the girl causing problems?”

Lucy stiffened.

“Oh, no, no,” Tuvié rushed to say, “it’s only that she requires sustenance. Would you mind guarding her while I speak to the kitchen droids? I’m sure they’ll enjoy the chance to—”

“I have more important tasks than observing a small organic,” Ellex told her.

“I am quite sure that the Maker would disagree,” said Tuvié.

I'm seven pages into this chapter and not much of anything has happened, which it probably should, given that it's been over a year and a half since I updated, but ... eh. The Lucyverse is full throttle "I do what I want," and what I want is internal angst + external chatting with Vader's droids.
