anghraine: tarrlok from legend of korra smirking (tarrlok (smug))
I reblogged a post I'd made for a Tarrlok Appreciation fest, back in Sep 2012. I still get nice comments on this one!

Ten Facts About Tarrlok

1

Tarrlok left home at seventeen. Although he missed his mother, he was glad to leave his dead-end village behind, and head to his tribe’s great city.

2

When he arrived, he was still more the boy who had begged his brother to stay than the man he would become. Even then, though, he took care to obscure his origins. He invented a completely different obscure village to call home, enough like his real one that any accidental slip would not reveal the truth. He invented completely different parents, but said, truthfully, that his father was a non-bender and his mother a healer.

Tarrlok never thought of himself as a liar, but he was accustomed to surviving in a position of vulnerability. His long years with Yakone and Noatak, learning to talk his away around more dangerous and volatile personalities than his own, had left him more than equipped to manage ordinary people. He knew exactly what to say, and when to say it, and the skill never left him.

anghraine: English: a language that lurks in dark alleys, beats up other languages & rifles through their pockets for spare vocab (english)
I was looking for my most recent stories (since I'd invented an entirely different, even-more-elaborate verse before I ran away), and realized that one was under f-lock and the other had never been posted here at all. So, here's the first:

title: Ten Facts About Elizabeth Bennet
verse: Comforts and Consequences (i.e., canon-compliant, but also an internally consistent verse, hopefully)

Well, that might be putting it broadly. This isn't a proper ace manifesto, but it is about why ace!Luke makes me happy, and how I can see him that way.

The inevitable background... )

Quasi-manifesto! )

So, a ways back, I mentioned that there are two crucial steps to genderswapping for me: paper dolls of the alt!character, and Ten Facts fic. I had already done three paper dolls for my present au_bb genderswap (girl!Luke), so that's pretty well covered though I'm not ruling out more, 'cause procrastination is fun -- therefore, on to the next!

Warning:  canonical quasi-incest at #8!  Blissfully ignoring anything that doesn't appear in the movies!  (Yes, I do know that the Skywalker twins are officially nineteen.  I chose to average out their ages in the script, instead.)

... I just realised that I'd written this a month ago and never posted it, probably because half the facts were easy and short and the other half ended up being these page long scenes.  But anyway, here it is.

fic! )

anghraine: vader extending his lightsaber; text: and now for the airing of grievances! (crack!OTP)
I meant to write a Darcy set to accompany Elizabeth's, but after a serious fact or two, just kept coming up with crack.  So instead I deciding to put off the serious fic and embrace the insanity.

At twenty-four, I'm pulling my first all-nighter.  4:30 in the morning ZOMG.  *yawn*

Anyway!  Thoughts on the rest of the OT:

-- the "Luke No, I am your father" scene is every bit as amazing as I remembered.  Again, I've heard complaints about Mark Hamill's acting, but it works for me.  If my superpowered cyborg archnemesis had cornered me, pwned me in a duel, chopped off my hand, and then informed me that he was my father and he'd really like to take out our common enemy and have some family togetherness time, do you know what would be the first thing out of my mouth?

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO," that's what.

I've been reminded of my most popular WIP.

By "reminded" I don't mean that the act of posting a new story (*gasp*) brought said fic to mind, but that people commented to remind me about it.  I was left with a strong desire to write something completely unproductive, something completely unrelated to my WIPs, and short too.  So I decided I would write Ten Facts fic.  Lots of Ten Facts fic!  For a loose value of "facts."

Starting with Star Wars, because I just watched it and therefore have it fresh in my mind, and also because I want to write blatant melodrama with a clear conscience and nobody justifies melodrama like Darth "Drama Queen" Vader, and also because I've always found the conclusion to be somewhat personally unsatisfying.
