I posted chapters 36-42 of pro patria. No footnotes.

I posted Chs 29-35 of pro patria. At last, no footnotes!

I crossposted Chs 22-28 of pro patria, with some footnotes:

Ch 22 notes:

1) Logan had to bend his head down every time he spoke to me: an exaggeration, but not by much; this is Althea with Logan.

2) a thin, worn, sharp-featured face, like a skritt’s: skritt are an acquisitive, rat-like species.

Ch 23 notes:

1) exploded my clones: this is less violent than it sounds like; clones are illusionary duplicates of yourself that will attack your enemies but can be voluntarily shattered for various effects, not … uh, actual people.
anghraine: a picture of an armoured young man with shoulder-length hair blowing in the wind (logan [focused])
I crossposted Chs 15-21 of pro patria, with a few footnotes.

Ch 16 notes:

1) the guild wars: a bloody war between actual guilds that took place shortly before the first game, Guild Wars: Prophecies.

2) Anise’s vibrant hair: Anise has very long, beautiful red hair.

Ch 17 note:

1) Eitel-the-Unlovable: Zamon’s retainer is a Norn, a member of a species of giant, vaguely Scandinavian shapeshifters.

Ch 20 note:

1) Ascalonian, sir, and proud of it: the line that inspired the whole fic! It solely (as far as I know) determines Deborah’s appearance in the cinematics, but Deborah and the PC being proud Ascalonians seemed something that would profoundly influence them, given the dynamics at play in GW1/Eye of the North/GW2.

Ch 21 notes:

1) the gate to Lion’s Arch: there’s a sparkly Asura gate/portal to Lion’s Arch (the central city of the whole game) from the human home district of Divinity’s Reach.

2) jumped from waypoint to waypoint: waypoints are location markers that let you teleport between them for a price (varying by distance between them).

I crossposted this section of pro patria, with additional footnotes for Tumblr:

Ch 11 note:

1) The gods, as usual, weren’t listening: the silence of the Six Gods is a major component of humanity’s current struggle for survival.

Ch 12 note:

1) Kormir had blessed me all my life: the human PC is always blessed from childhood by one of the gods.

Ch 13 note:

1) It’s Lady Gwen, isn’t it?: the original Althea and Gwen were probably the two most iconic Ascalonian women of the Searing era, with the saintly Althea burned alive, and Gwen enslaved before embarking on a path of bloody vengeance. So Logan actually does know the name at some level, enough for a vague association with the Searing, even though he selects the wrong namesake. The implacable Gwen just comes to mind more immediately in connection with this Althea, particularly as she’s his own ancestress.

Ch 14 note:

1) here in the very heart of Krytan politics: the storyline is officially called “Krytan politics.”

I crossposted the first seven chapters of pro patria with a similar introduction:

I don’t actually expect people to read this, but I want it over here for completeness’s sake, so—the Guild Wars 2 fic!

This one is … different, apart from being for a canon that I think maybe three of my friends are interested in, because instead of writing a one-shot in my format of seven sections of seven sentences each, I’ve written an entire 70k+ fic [ETA 11/8/2021: now closing in on 100k] that way. Each chapter is precisely 49 sentences long, which makes for a lot of very short chapters, so I’m bunching them up into groups of (of course!) seven.

It’s business as usual, however, in having copious footnotes (these ones assume everyone’s unfamiliar with the canon story).

[ETA: the footnotes are not in the DW version, and this section in particular had extensive ones, on the assumption that any followers who were interested wouldn't be familiar with the canon:

I had an appointment with my psychiatrist, and she thinks I need to eat better (true) and that I'm hypomanic right now (also true), so ... there's that. At least the appointment is over and I can go back to my brain buzzing in a million different directions without being additionally stressed about her.

I'm trying to read a biography of Thomas More by his son-in-law and it's incredibly slow-going—unsurprisingly, given where my concentration is at right now. He's in the Tower now, though, so the end is in sight.

A stranger on Tumblr said I was an international treasure for a post describing everything we know about Pemberley from the book, which was really sweet, esp on a post I didn't at all expect it on.

And I've been working on pro patria, my GW2 slight-AU fic, which has a whopping six bookmarks on AO3, but which I know some people read and which I'm deeply attached to. My version of the PC is deeply flawed and really fun (for me). RIP to the notifications of the people subscribed to my AO3 for ... idk, literally anything else, though. I do wish I had some more motivation for Darcy/Elizabeth right now, though. I'd love to get through tolerably well acquainted. Or make some progress on the Darcy/Elizabeth femslash fic that occupies part of my brain. Or anything—I'm having amorphous Darcy/Elizabeth feelings that I can't really articulate atm.

I'd like to make more progress on my Faramir/Aragorn femslash verse, too, although it's even more niche than the GW2 fix-fic. F!Aragorn/Aranor is still problematic, but also really attractive to me (which makes her funner to write), and I might like this f!Faramir (Míriel) even better than the other one, much as I love both. I didn't come up with machinations to keep Míriel in Minas Tirith during the evacuation, so she just gets one piece of astounding news after the other before she even shows up in MT, now in a very uncertain position. It'll be fun!... someday.

One of the things about writing longfics is that when you finally get around to crossposting and you're going over the beginning sections, it's like ... so long ago?? And so shiny and new???

I was just cross-posting the GW2 fic and it's constantly like "aww, baby Althea is so confident!" and "wow that relationship was different back then" and "hmm, what exactly was I doing with that, anyway?"

This was for a meme!

The GW2 fic now has over 45k words and ... three whole bookmarks! The third is tagged "I have no idea what's going on but I like it" (:D), and there are 31 whole kudos after being stuck at 27 for years. And I actually got TWO comments on a chapter, one from a person I don't know who's anticipating the inevitable future developments that are about 75% of the reason I wrote the fic at all.

It could seem pretty infinitesimal, but I am 100% aware that almost no one cares about the fic, so it's always surprising and awesome when it turns out someone does.

:D :D :D

...it hit 30k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And it’s now comprised of seven clumps of seven chapters, each of which contains seven sections, each of which is seven sentences long. Why?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It’s kind of amazing how it can be … oh, this has four hundred kudos, whatever for one fic, but then it’s incredibly exciting to have twenty-seven on something else.

Twenty-seven whole people liked my OFC gaming grudgefic! Two of them bookmarked it for the future. O_O
