Thank you both! It’s very encouraging—I do hope I’ll get to it one day.

( For a hot sec I thought this was about the other original story….! )

I replied:

tbh that story cannibalizes all kinds of names and relationships from my Darcy-Fitzwilliam headcanons!

I'm curious about Philadelphia!

I replied:

So, once upon a time, I wrote a P&P AU that basically re-tells the whole story, but with m!Elizabeth and f!Darcy. The main appeal for me personally was f!Darcy, though, and while that one stuck pretty firmly to the P&P rails, I couldn’t help thinking of a more ‘what-if’ style AU where Darcy is the only genderbent one. Darcy/Elizabeth femslash!

The doc is called ‘Philadelphia’ because I was trying to think of a feminine name that began with the Fi- sound but also had L’s in it, and thought of either Philippa or Philadelphia—I chose the latter because it sounded more pretentious to me, lol, and because it was a name used repeatedly in Austen’s own family. Here's an excerpt:

To be sure, Miss Darcy neither did nor said anything wrong. Her manners, however uninviting, were correct; her appearance was more than correct. Elizabeth had never seen a handsomer woman, except Jane, whom Miss Darcy did not resemble in the slightest. To look at her, in fact, she might have been Lady Catherine’s daughter rather than insipid Miss de Bourgh. Miss Darcy had the same black curls, the same cold dark eyes in a colourless face, the same decided way of carrying herself.

Elizabeth did not suppose that Lady Catherine had ever been quite as pretty, or as sensible. Miss Darcy spoke well when she deigned to speak at all—but her air of superiority was exactly Lady Catherine’s. The haughty silences would have been, too, if Lady Catherine ever confined herself to silence.

[ETA 3/3/2024: as you might guess, the "Philadelphia" fic was an early iteration of Love, Pride & Delicacy, but I ended up changing a few major things about it: I decided to re-use "Catherine" as f!Darcy's name just because it struck me as so apropos for Lady Anne's and Lady Catherine's daughters, Elizabeth goes from moderately disliking Philadelphia personally but not even remembering that she was supposed to be Wickham's villain to carrying a grudge against Catherine for Wickham's sake, and Philadelphia was implicitly white while Catherine is visibly biracial.]

I was looking at my GoogleDrive, and within the last week, I created/edited:
  • three pages of a new chapter of tolerably well acquainted
  • notes on Utopia
  • the original fantasy novel
  • a f!Darcy/Elizabeth fic where they meet at Rosings (it’s a direct what-if rather than a retelling à la First Impressions)
  • more f!Faramir fic, this time with bonus Denethor
  • the original Regency novel, about a young woman who has to turn to her two glamorous, but self-absorbed and semi-estranged half-siblings to escape a terrible marriage (I meant it to be a romance, but it’s predictably about 10% romance to 90% family drama)
  • eleven pages of notes on Machiavelli >_<
phew

An anon asked:

Have you ever played around with gender-swapped Pride & Prejudice?

I replied:

Oh, bless you, haha.

I wrote 36k of f!Darcy/m!Elizabeth here. There are some other fics in the ’verse that you can see if you click on “Series.”

I brainstormed a fully genderbent P&P with [personal profile] tulina and [personal profile] hl, but then couldn’t do my part for personal reasons, so they wrote the whole thing. It’s here.

I also have a f!Darcy/Elizabeth femslash fic in scraps. The longest piece is here [Tumblr link].

I had an appointment with my psychiatrist, and she thinks I need to eat better (true) and that I'm hypomanic right now (also true), so ... there's that. At least the appointment is over and I can go back to my brain buzzing in a million different directions without being additionally stressed about her.

I'm trying to read a biography of Thomas More by his son-in-law and it's incredibly slow-going—unsurprisingly, given where my concentration is at right now. He's in the Tower now, though, so the end is in sight.

A stranger on Tumblr said I was an international treasure for a post describing everything we know about Pemberley from the book, which was really sweet, esp on a post I didn't at all expect it on.

And I've been working on pro patria, my GW2 slight-AU fic, which has a whopping six bookmarks on AO3, but which I know some people read and which I'm deeply attached to. My version of the PC is deeply flawed and really fun (for me). RIP to the notifications of the people subscribed to my AO3 for ... idk, literally anything else, though. I do wish I had some more motivation for Darcy/Elizabeth right now, though. I'd love to get through tolerably well acquainted. Or make some progress on the Darcy/Elizabeth femslash fic that occupies part of my brain. Or anything—I'm having amorphous Darcy/Elizabeth feelings that I can't really articulate atm.

I'd like to make more progress on my Faramir/Aragorn femslash verse, too, although it's even more niche than the GW2 fix-fic. F!Aragorn/Aranor is still problematic, but also really attractive to me (which makes her funner to write), and I might like this f!Faramir (Míriel) even better than the other one, much as I love both. I didn't come up with machinations to keep Míriel in Minas Tirith during the evacuation, so she just gets one piece of astounding news after the other before she even shows up in MT, now in a very uncertain position. It'll be fun!... someday.
