I reblogged a gifset of Sadika from Muhteşem Yüzyıl, in which she's strapping a dagger to her leg under her skirts, and tagged it:

#ahhh my erendis headcanon #sans dagger #...maybe
anghraine: a woman with short black hair (gwen thackeray from guild wars 2) casts a spell with pink/purple light (gwen)
I reblogged this photoset I made some time ago:

Favourite character aesthetics: Gwen Thackeray from Guild Wars

I want you to know: I do not like you. I do not forgive you. But most of all, I do not fear you. I hate you. There’s a difference.

I added:

I'm playing GW/GW2 again, and ... I love her so much.

romansleftshoulderpad on Tumblr said that most people's favourite ship dynamics are just a character they can project onto + their type, and I tagged it:

#this is one hundred percent me haha #though often this is how my faves themselves are—a mix of things where i'm like 'hey! i feel you!' and things where i'm like 'wow amazing'

actuallygomezaddams on Tumblr posted a screenshot of an ad gone wrong: one which started "How To Tell if a Guy Likes You" and in the second half, added "Causes & Risk Factors. Interesting Facts. Preventative Measures. Signs & Symptoms"

I reblogged it and tagged it #ancalimë

Getting the emails for both a) all students and b) grad students specifically is kind of a trip, because the ones for students are like ‘we’re here to support you in this difficult time’ and the ones for grad students are like ‘NO SLACKING JUST BECAUSE YOU’RE AT HOME, PRODUCTIVITY IS ALL’

speaknow on Tumblr posted about how irritating it is to get people you can't stand on your dash through other people's reblogs, and I reblogged my agreement, adding:

I don't know if it's on my end or DW's, but for the first time that I can remember, I don't have to highlight words for CTRL+I to italicize them! It's a small thing, but it's been such a pain for so long and now it works :D :D
anghraine: a man with long black hair and a ring on his hand (faramir [hair])
I’ve seen some fairly elaborate theories for why Faramir’s representation of Boromir in TTT seems fairly negative. And they’re fine and all, but I think they do tend to ignore two important things:

- Faramir is trying to extract information about how Boromir died from people potentially involved in his death

- Faramir is explicitly said to have believed that Boromir was the best!! ever!!!!!

Every time I start playing again, I’m surprised by how beautiful this game is.

We know next to nothing about Tindómiel, and yet … <3 <3 <3

[ETA 11/8/2021: Tindómiel is Elros's daughter and Elrond's only immediate niece.]

tagged: #arwen's name echoing hers is about it #but #!!!!!!!! #so many headcanons y'all

[Arwen's name Undómiel refers to the star of evening twilight, the Evenstar, while tindóme is "morning twilight," making Tindómiel the Morning star. These are, of course, the same star—and moreover, it is literally their grandfather Eärendil on his journey with the Silmaril.]

I reblogged a gifset of Padmé Amidala in blue on Tatooine, and added:

tagged: #tindómiel #the morningstar of númenor :') #i do wish she and arwen could have met somehow #but at least ... i do wonder what stories arwen was told and what she thought of the names #growing up and in her long years in rivendell but also after—when she more or less chose to become a dúnadan #and ultimately a royal one! #also given my headcanon that tindómiel was the 'royal origin' of the húrinionath #i imagine she was a major icon under the stewards and that legacy is very present in gondor #but of course arwen would have much more direct knowledge #maybe it'd be a sort of connection?? or something #and lol all the tindómiel iconography suddenly looks like arwen

There are a lot of funny moments in P&P, but personally, it’s hard to think of any surpassing one that is probably not even intended to be funny:

At length every idea seemed to fail him; and, after standing a few moments without saying a word, he suddenly recollected himself, and took leave.

The others then joined her, and expressed admiration of his figure

So. Elizabeth is wandering around Darcy’s own property, receiving uncomfortable revelations about him, and almost the last time they met was when she refused his proposal of marriage (and it went down from there), and then suddenly he’s right there and they have the most awkward conversation conceivable, and then her uncle and aunt are going on about what a great body he has.

I mean, everything about this is utterly delightful.

#mr gardiner and mrs gardiner chatting about how hot darcy is while elizabeth is too overwhelmed to even notice is everything #the adaptations really drop the ball on the sheer comedic value of this moment imo #the pemberley scenes are GOLD

That (very tangentially) reminds me:

If you can travel to Boulder, Colorado on October 8th-10th, the Rocky Mountain division of the MLA is looking for people to submit abstracts on 18th century British literature.

And other things, of course, but it seems like the 18th century panel is particularly open if anybody has an interest in poking around in academia.

[11/8/2021: The panel and the conference did end up closing down for COVID-19, so just cross-posting for lj-style posterity.]
anghraine: rows of old-fashioned books lining shelves (books)
People in my program are all posting about their experiences with Zoom for our online teaching, and I’m sitting here like … I guess I could use GoogleDocs for my class.

[ETA 11/8/2021: I did end up using Zoom, though not for that class.]

I crossposted the first seven chapters of pro patria with a similar introduction:

I don’t actually expect people to read this, but I want it over here for completeness’s sake, so—the Guild Wars 2 fic!

This one is … different, apart from being for a canon that I think maybe three of my friends are interested in, because instead of writing a one-shot in my format of seven sections of seven sentences each, I’ve written an entire 70k+ fic [ETA 11/8/2021: now closing in on 100k] that way. Each chapter is precisely 49 sentences long, which makes for a lot of very short chapters, so I’m bunching them up into groups of (of course!) seven.

It’s business as usual, however, in having copious footnotes (these ones assume everyone’s unfamiliar with the canon story).

[ETA: the footnotes are not in the DW version, and this section in particular had extensive ones, on the assumption that any followers who were interested wouldn't be familiar with the canon:
