For no particular reason, some of my fave characters I headcanon as aro-ace:

- Luke Skywalker, #1 space ace always and forever

- Obi-Wan Kenobi genuinely does not get what all this fuss is about

- Tar-Telperiën gets it but does not give a single fuck

- Boromir, her true heir

- Charlotte Lucas!

- Emily from “The Knight’s Tale”; just leave her alone, y’all

- Mary Lennox, who is a kid but never changes in this regard

- Trisana Chandler :D

Tagged: #i love them all :) #there are some characters where i'm tempted to lalala at some aspect of canon and imagine that way (moiraine! aredhel!) #but these are the ones where i genuinely read them that way #(don't @ me about expanded universes)

I read f_fa's SW threads sometimes, because they can be interesting, but tbh they're so allergic to bad "Jedi Critical" takes that most of them have come around the other side to "the Jedi cannot be criticized for anything, ever, and if you think any of them made any poor decisions at any point with regard to Anakin ARGLEBARGLE GENOCIDE." There's one valiant soul in a recent thread (not me, I almost never actually post there) trying to argue that Obi-Wan chopping off three of Anakin's limbs and leaving him to burn alive under the assumption that he'll eventually die is morally questionable, actually, and the responses are all defensive nonsense.

I honestly find it weird for anyone to come away from the OT with the conviction that Obi-Wan never fucked up with regard to Anakin, but add in the prequels and ... whew.

(I'm kind of curious if there's any association between "well Anakin deserved it tho" and "Obi-Wan only said Luke's refusal to assassinate his father was condemning the galaxy to Palpatine's rule as a tactic, he wasn't actually wrong" and "but telling the truth about Anakin at any point before Luke left for Cloud City would have been super awkward, so it's okay that Luke had no idea he was attempting patricide." Obi-Wan's failures are what make him so interesting!)

(...relatedly, my best friend and I had a long phone call about SW today, as we frequently do, and I stand by our shared opinion that, while there's a lot of interesting material in the prequels-as-they-are, a potentially very interesting alternate approach would have been a narrative that took Obi-Wan as the clear protagonist from the beginning to the end and focused on him as the flawed tragic hero of the piece in a more subtle way than Anakin is.)

I finished recording The Imperial Menace, the sequel to my f!Luke AU, The Adventures of Lucy Skywalker. It’s all uploaded here. The recording matches the AO3 version here, also slightly cleaned up from the original.

Again, I don’t expect most people to be into this, but stuff to know if you are:
  • It resolves the cliffhanger at the end of Adventures, then ends on another one.
  • It runs parallel to the end of ANH and most of ESB.
  • It was first written in 2012 on a schedule, and ran into some difficulties, which is why it’s shorter and more erratic than Adventures.
  • As with Adventures, it’s based on the films and (where possible) the scripts, but not expanded universes past or present, official statements, etc.
  • Also as with Adventures, it assumes that the extreme male domination of the OT reflects in-world misogyny and patriarchy.
  • The page can take a few seconds longer than most to load.
Also, if you want to read this without reading The Adventures of Lucy Skywalker, that's mostly doable, but there is one major consequence in Adventures you'll need to know about. Cutting for the spoiler:

I was thinking some more about SW ages because of a line in the Lucy recording, and going by the scripts (I'm not interested in ~official timelines or w/e):

- AOTC is explicitly 10 years after TPM
- ROTS is an unknown length of time after AOTC, though I'd think several years
- ANH is 18 years after ROTS
- ESB is an unknown length of time after ANH, though I'd think at least a year
- ROTJ is an unknown length of time after ANH, though the fact that Luke gets confirmation from Yoda in it suggests it hasn't been that long IMO, perhaps a year.

Ages:

Obi-Wan = 25 in TPM, 35 in AOTC
Padmé = doesn't actually say, only that it's been 10 years since TPM. I think the promo material said she was 14 in TPM, but that's not mentioned here.
Anakin = about 9 in TPM, about 19 in AOTC.

Luke = 18 in ANH
Leia = about sixteen in ANH, retconned to be Luke's twin, so 18
Han = about 30 in ANH

Okay, now onto some guesswork.

I finished recording The Adventures of Lucy Skywalker, the first of the main fics in my ongoing f!Luke AU. It’s all uploaded at my other corner of the Internet (thanks to [personal profile] tree) here. The recording matches the AO3 version here, which I slightly cleaned up for this.

I know it’s not most people’s thing, but stuff to know if it does sound relevant to your interests:
  • It was first posted in 2011(!), is 29k long, and runs parallel to most of ANH.
  • It’s based on the films and (where possible) the scripts, but not expanded universes past or present, official statements, etc.
  • On that note (because I get asked about it), Lucy and Leia’s age is based on the ANH script, which states that Luke is 18 and Leia is about 16. I averaged it out to 17.
  • It does end on a cliffhanger, which has long been resolved in the AO3 version, but not recorded yet.
  • I don’t do accents etc apart from my own, though I try to differentiate the voices slightly.
  • The page can take a few seconds longer than most pages to load.

It's always weird to me when people are like ... oh, Obi-Wan and Yoda aren't really wrong about Anakin in ESB/ROTJ, and they aren't really saying Luke needs to kill him, Luke is just mistakenly assuming that's what they mean and misinterpreting their wisdom. He actually did what they wanted!

Meanwhile in ROTJ:

LUKE: I can't kill my own father.
OBI-WAN: Then the Emperor has already won.

Yoda is somewhat more ambiguous (he says Luke has to "confront" Vader, and earlier that the Dark Side forever dominates your destiny), but Obi-Wan is wrong. It's okay. He can be wrong.

I reblogged a nice comment on my elaborate Avatar/Star Wars plotbunny + the original (May 2013) post, which is:

I’ve written Avatar in the Star Wars ‘verse in varying ways, but what I really want is Star Wars in the Avatar verse. I mentioned some vague ideas before, but what I’d really to either see or get around to writing someday is this:

Air

- The Order of the White Lotus is highly visible and active as a body of warriors. Originally, they were neutral peacekeepers from all four nations, and guardians of the Avatar. Now they’ve largely evolved into defenders/diplomats for the Fire Nation. They also take command of all benders they find as young children and train them in the bending arts and traditions of the Order, but plenty are never found and have to make their own way.

- Qui-Gon Jinn is an earthbender and unorthodox Lotus warrior. Through some various adventures involving his apprentice Obi-Wan (an airbender) and the (disguised, non-bender) Southern Water Tribe chieftainess Padmé, he discovers that the Avatar, believed to be vanished from the earth for generations, has reincarnated as a young boy named Anakin Skywalker. Anakin is a suspiciously golden-eyed slave in the Earth Kingdom.

stuff that happens: Lucy has another chat with Chirrut and faces the truth—from a certain point of view.

aka, I’ve talked about this a million times, but I wanted to stick all my thoughts in one place. Also, specifically kicked off by @steinbecks’ fascinating take on him here.

Warning: I am aggressively indifferent to non-film material apart from novelizations and scripts. EU material, past and present, does not enter into my interpretations.

Okay. I think that how we understand Anakin’s identity as Darth Vader is … often flawed. Vader’s sense of his identity seems to get subsumed into Yoda’s, Obi-Wan’s, and Palpatine’s sense of his identity. But the whole idea of Anakin-in-the-past and Darth-Vader-in-the-present as ontologically separate is not an idea that Anakin himself ever subscribes to.

An anon at Tumblr asked:

Star wars questions: I've only seen the original trilogy and force awakens so far. And I was wondering - is it ever considered morally right for a Jedi to kill? I would think not, that murder is something only people on the dark side would use. Yet Obi Wan and Yoda seemed to imply that want Luke to kill his father for the greater good etc And I've always been surprised by this. Why do Jedi seem to approve of murder yet not associate it with dark or evil? Unless Jedi don't frown on murder?

My response:

Killing and murder are not the same thing, though I think the Jedi walk a pretty damn narrow line there.

Which Star Wars Jedi/Sith are you?

Obi-Wan Kenobi

You’ve managed to train both a great evil and a greater good, not to mention whipping the ass of the coolest looking Sith in the series. However, you do have a few weaknesses, like Count Dooku and a douche bag of a Padawan. Other than that, you are the epitome of class. The accent, the outfit, and your care for those around you is highly admirable. Arguably, you are the best Jedi that ever lived, having owned Maul, Anakin and Grievous, a total of seven lightsabres among the three.

So, fanvids. I've been meaning to do this for ages, and this isn't all of the ones I've liked, just some that caught my eye. I have a few for other fandoms, too (omg Romana I vids <3 <3 <3), but SW is so heavy on the imagery that it just seems naturally suited to vidding.
