anghraine: a shot of an enormous statue near a mountain from amazon's the rings of power (númenor [meneltarma])
An anon on Tumblr said:

First of all congrats on nearing the end of your PhD program!!! Woohoo!!!

Second of all, I’m muy late to the party here (been off tumblr for a bit) but WRT these tags ( https://www.tumblr.com/anghraine/749212904253947904/khazzman-tolkien-elendil-was-called-the ) what do you mean the pregnancies were strange lol how strange can they be…?

[The tags in question: #and that's just the tip of the iceberg in terms of how distinct and peculiar númenóreans are #fandom has slept on it for decades but they are reallyyyyyy unusual #they have weird pregnancies (and few of them) and horse telepathy and can rarely even get injured much less sick #there's this part where tolkien is trying to mathematically figure out elvish aging (hilarious tbh) and pencils in 'and númenóreans' #that's not even getting into the uncanny valley of númenórean kids...]

My reply:

As for the first point: Thank you! I'm really looking forwards to being done, lol.

As for the second point: anon, I delight in your innocence.

WHAT. That one about Tar-Minastir???? I… I’m so glad you posted this now when I have a chance to play around with that in the Akallabêth Reboot… :D

I replied:

Ooh, cool! You’ll have to tell us how it goes :D

They responded:

It’s mostly from a “referencing history to help negotiate a renewed alliance” perspective in the campaign and my players probably won’t catch it, but I have some thoughts now about the change in information… especially because I’ve written Fin-galad into this campaign for my own satisfaction… Anyway, I have some Thoughts percolating!

There are various timeline glitches in Middle-earth, but I can never decide whether my favorite is:

a) Arvedui claimed the throne of Gondor as not only the son-in-law of the previous king of Gondor, but as heir of Isildur … while his own father was still alive

or

b) The Númenórean fleet that saved the Elves is supposed to be sent by Tar-Minastir, but was actually sent under Tar-Telperiën.

[ETA 4/23/2024: I don't hate either of these facts, to be clear; I hate Arvedui and love Telperiën.]

Númenórean ruling queens sexuality headcanons, because why not:

Tar-Ancalimë: very lesbian, though her society is heteronormative enough that it takes her awhile to grasp, esp because she dislikes men generally. There’s a certain amount of vying to be one of her “favorites.”

Tar-Telperiën: very ace. She has always known this.

Tar-Vanimeldë: pan and cheerful about it. She and Herucalmo have a sort of technically open relationship, in that he’s mostly just into power and doesn’t have affairs of his own, but also doesn’t care if she does.

Tar-Míriel: very, very quietly bi. She has an equally quiet ~special friendship~ with one of her handmaidens, who is bold enough to call her Míriel when they’re alone. They’re strong enough in mind and careful enough to hide it even from Sauron, and it’s a little spot of joy in Míriel’s terrible life.

#elizabeth i… absolutely forgot the fleet sending was a headcanon… incredible #it’s just extremely good and beautiful and Right

I replied:

<3 <3 <3

It’s Tolkien’s fault for dating the battle to Telperiën’s rule and then being like … actually it was a dude who was responsible. NAH. I kind of like the idea of in-universe arguments about who Really sent it and people pointing out the disparity between the typical narrative and the actual calendar

but it was Telperiën

telperien and boromir… hundreds of emotional crying emojis… perf

I said:

Right?! And now I’m imagining young Boromir learning about this great ruler who refused to have anything to do with marriage and then turned around and authorized a fleet of warships and him just being 😍

Tagged: #boromir's teacher: and tar-telperiën took no interest in middle-earth and- #boromir (age 12): well ACTUALLY #ajklsdf;jkad i know this is one hundred percent not tolkien's intention and it is one hundred percent my headcanon now #telperiën stanning ace boromir is everything

For no particular reason, some of my fave characters I headcanon as aro-ace:

- Luke Skywalker, #1 space ace always and forever

- Obi-Wan Kenobi genuinely does not get what all this fuss is about

- Tar-Telperiën gets it but does not give a single fuck

- Boromir, her true heir

- Charlotte Lucas!

- Emily from “The Knight’s Tale”; just leave her alone, y’all

- Mary Lennox, who is a kid but never changes in this regard

- Trisana Chandler :D

Tagged: #i love them all :) #there are some characters where i'm tempted to lalala at some aspect of canon and imagine that way (moiraine! aredhel!) #but these are the ones where i genuinely read them that way #(don't @ me about expanded universes)

I have a lot of usernames that I occasionally do something with, but … honestly the best one I've got is tar-telperien.

(With hurinionath and andacielos as the runner-ups.)

#i tried for tar-telperien just on the off chance and then GOT her #i also have tar-silmarien aka WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN #but i think i'm happiest with tar-telperien :) #no slight to hurinionath though

I reblogged [personal profile] jubaah's illustration of Tar-Telperiën and said:

#ALL HAIL THE QUEEN #sometimes i just need her on my blog #honestly i love so much about her #her getting precedence over a son bc she was older #her pride #her indifference to elves #everything #i definitely hc her as an aravis type (in the proud and hard but true as steel sense) #but extremely ace #anyway #just ... look at her #she just exudes 'no fucks given' haha so she's a perfect telperiën #and i love her hair!

anghraine: kuvira from legend of korra (kuvira (face))
I’ve been trawling my headcanons tag, and like… 99.9% of them are still dear to my soul.

[Later that day]

Eh, pulling them out of the tags:

- #1 at all times: Darcy is on the autistic spectrum (this is a pretty common headcanon, for kind of obvious reasons).

- Luke Skywalker uses the Skywalkers’ ancestral language with Anakin on the second Death Star; Anakin uses the language when he proclaims “I am your father,” but resolutely sticks to Basic on DSII until he’s reclaimed himself and is dying (I wrote a fic about it here).

- The Stewards’ origins as 1) a family of ultimately royal origin and 2) the descendants of a Faithful family in Númenor come together with the House of Húrin originally going back to a Faithful family established by Númenor’s first princess, Tindómiel.

- Vanozza dei Cattanei in The Borgias is Castilian, a courtesan out of Toledo originally named Juana de Castañeda.

- Darcy and Elizabeth have separate bedrooms along the lines of Congreve’s Millamant and Mirabell.

- The Elvish aesthetic of the First Age is primarily ancient Egyptian and ancient Greek (to go with Tolkien’s Egyptian-Byzantine-Roman influences with the Dúnedain).

- Kuvira from Legend of Korra chose to call herself ‘Kuvira’ after she was abandoned by her parents, guided by her quasi-foster mother Suyin Beifong.
